PSOE and UPN

Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba (PSOE)
The leader of PSOE, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, have said that the "stability of Nafarroa government" is one of their priority. According to him, early elections in Nafarroa are not good. He has also showed his preference to ally again with UPN (right-wing spanish unionist political party in Nafarroa). In his opinion, there are some "red lines" that impede an alliance between PSOE and pro-independence political parties.

The situation of Nafarroa government is weak. UPN is governing in minority, pro-independence political parties have increased their support, social cuts are weakening the government, economic scandals and corruption target UPN and UPN have also an internal struggle between the president of Nafarroa (Yolanda Barcina) and the leader of the party (Alberto Catalan).

The situation of Nafarroa (south basque country) is very important for spanish government in their struggle against Basque independence. Nafarroa is one of the territories in south basque country where the anti-basque feeling is stronger. But spanish feeling is also weak in a lot of areas of Nafarroa. Basque pro-independence political parties want an institution that will unite all south basque country (step prior to independence).
