Yesterday, some of the members of ETA leadership during the last years were judged yesterday in Paris. During the trial, Garikoitz Aspiazu (according to spanish media he was ETA military structure leader during the last years before his arrest) read an statement leaded to spanish/french governments and to the victims of Basque Conflict that are not linked with it. They have recognized that they are members of ETA and that they are talking in the name of ETA.
They have apologized to all that people who did not have any responsability with the basque conflict that have suffered by ETA actions: People who have suffered collateral damage in actions etc. Although they have said that the court has no legitimacy to judge them, have also remarked that they have not gone to the trial to declare war: "It would be better to talk in a table than in the battle". According to them, a lot of the injuries that confrontation have caused are to close yet. And it is responsability of all to heal it.
For ETA, the overcoming the consequences of the conflict is in only part of the process and the causes of the conflict should be also treated. They have also remarked that the agreements should be achieved between basque people and organizations during a democratic process.
For the spanish interior minister, that words are propaganda prepared to the creation of Sortu (the new political party of Abertzale left). Spanish authorities have also said that they only want the unconditional dissolution and surrender ETA weapons.
For Abertzale left representatives (Txelui Moreno, Maribi Ugarteburu and Xabi Larralde) the new statement is "very important" and positive. They have also asked to the french and spanish government to make steps in favour of peace and solution.
