According to Etxerat, the basque political prisoners Xabier Aranburu suffered maltreatment in a french prsion (Mure Seyssese). The past week, after a discussion with a prison officer he was isolated in a special cell. In that cell, he had to be naked, he was awakened every hour, they kick him, he had to shower with cold water (without towels and slippers) etc.
In protest, he started a hunger and thirst strike on tuesday. On Saturday, he gave up the thirst strike and continued with the hunger strike. Julen Mujika, another basque political prisoners who was jailed in the same prison, started also a hunger strike when heared the situation of Xabier. Juan Carlos Estevez, other basque political prisoner in Mure Seyssese also protested. On Ondarro (Bizkaia south basque country) 400 people protested for that situation. Besides, 60 of them traveled to the french prison to protest and express their solidarity with Xabier Aranburu.
Today, the lawyer of Aranburu has achieved to talk with him. It seems that his living conditions have improved after the protests. So Aranburu and Mujika have decided to end with the hunger strikes.
