Trial against "Batasuna" and "Herriko Tabernak"

Guardia Civil closing a Herriko Taberna
Soon, it is going to start the trial against "Herriko Tabernak" (Abertzale left social pubs) case in the "Audencia Nacional" (a special tribunal created to fight against basque struggle). The Herrikos who wish can be judged individually.

On 2002, 11 people were arrested in south basque country and after that arrests, 75 "Herriko Tabernak" were foreclosed by spanish authorities. On the same year, "Batasuna" (pro-independence and socialist political party) started to be outlawed. On 2003, it was definitely outlawed.

According to spanish authorities, the "Herriko Tabernak" were used to finance ETA. A "Herriko Taberna"  (People's pub in basque) was usually a pub (not always) where Abertzale left militants and supporters meet. On 2002, spanish police, Ertzaintza (basque regional police) and Guardia Civil (spanish military police) entered in dozens of Herriko Tabernak to foreclose it. There were incidents in different towns and villages of south basque country. Despite of that, nowadays there are still different Herriko's in all the basque country.
