"Txiki" Muños has been elected as leader of the basque trade union ELA, with the support of 89,81% of votes (onlye votes the delegates). They have also decided the strategy of next 4 years. According to that strategy, in basque country exist a "national and social classes conflict" and it is necesary organize in the work world and mobilize to stop the social cuts. They have also said that the politic of institutions must change. They denounced that the institutions have been put to the service of the bosses.
They see in the economical crisis "an oportunity" for the Basque Country sovereignty. And encourages the basque institutions to desobey spanish government. They have also support the work with other basque trade unions, especially with LAB.
ELA is one of the most important trade union of south basque country (is the biggest). It is one of the oldest basque trade unions. ELA was founded on 1911 by basque nationalists workers. During the spanish dictatorship, ELA was outlawed. In recent decades, ELA have collaborated with other basque trade unions as LAB (socialist and pro-independence) or EHNE (farmers and ranchers of south basque country).
