Garinoain: A town ruled by the Spanish extreme right

Javier Etxarri (mayor of Garinoain)
Garinoain is a little town of Nafarroa (south basque country) that is ruled by the spanish far-right political party "Derecha Navarra y Española"-"Spanish and Navarre right". They defend Nafarroa as a spanish province and reject the union of Euskadi (Gipuzkoa, Araba and Bizkaia) with Nafarroa.

They are also against abortion and "Euskara Batua" (unified language of Basque). On 2011 they tried to achieve the power on some town councils of Nafarroa. They got a very poor result however won the mayorship of Garinoain. But... how?

328 people voted and they only achieved 18 votes. However, their political party was the only one that presented. 305 of votes were blank and 5 null. People protested (with demonstrations, events etc.) against this anti democratic decision. The leader of DNE accused them of being members and sympathizants of Abertzale left and ETA.

People organized themselves and created "Aupa Garinoain" an association to counteract the power of DNE in Garinoain. Aupa Garinoain is formed by people of different ideologies that are against the situation of the village.

Since that time, DNE have caused different polemics in Garinoain. According to Sare Antifaxista, one of the latest controversies occurred some days ago. The mayor of Garinoain, Javier Etxarri, appeared drunk and started insulting people of the village. He called them "cowards" and "nasty". Besides, he made sexist comments so to some women.
